News Update- Monday 16th March 2020

Club Statement Regarding Covid-19:

This is the advice we have received from the LTA, Kent and North Kent.
All organised LTA events are suspended. This includes LTA Team Tennis, as well as Kent and NK tennis leagues for adults and juniors along with the NK Cup Competitions. The LTA yesterday consulted the government regarding the positions of individual clubs and their activities. They have issued the following statement:

‘Whilst the LTA has suspended its organised activities the government have currently indicated that recreational exercise taking place at a safe distance from others and in a safe exercise environment is something that can continue. An unsafe distance as defined by the government is more than 15 minutes with someone less than 2 metres away’.

In light of this guidance, at the Kent Board meeting last night, it was felt that coaching can continue. As a result of this, whilst the guidance remains, the club junior and adult coaching programme can continue with the coaching team following suitable precautions as recommended by the government (i.e. washing hands before and after playing). However, the catering and bar services are suspended.

The mini tennis Easter camps are cancelled; however, the coaching team can provide junior group coaching of no more than 90 minutes which will not require the use of the clubhouse. This is being discussed by the coaching team as we speak. Please note, individual coaching can continue and is at the discretion of the individual parent (for a junior) or adult.

The American Tournament on Sunday 22nd March is cancelled, as is the American Tournament and Wimbledon Draw on Sunday 19th April. However, the draw will still be conducted by the Club Secretary and Club Captain on Sunday 19th April.

The singles ladder league is currently continuing and will be risk reviewed on a regular basis to ensure compliance with LTA and Public Health England recommendations.

The club remains open to use at the discretion of members.

Many thanks, The Board of Directors.

Results:

No fixtures took place over the weekend.

New Coach – Parrey Amiri:

Good news on the coaching front.  I have found a new full time level 4 coach in Parrey Amiri from Parklangley to start at the club from the 1st April.  This is very exciting news and I am thrilled to welcome Parrey to the coaching team and the club.  I know Parrey is looking forward to meeting you all soon.

Membership Renewal 2020/21:

Club secretary Caroline Ratcliffe would like you all to know that our new membership season is open!  Please complete a membership form via the club website and make payment to the club as soon as you can.  Please note, the cost of the membership renewal is slightly cheaper if paid before the 1st April 2020.

Friday Night Competition:

Last Friday night saw 12 junior members competing in our monthly orange ball competition.  The standard of play was once again fantastic and the sporting behaviour was magnificent.  Well done to all those who took part and a special mention to Lily-Rose Crook and Eleanor Higgins who won their respective round robin leagues.  I hope you like the photo!

New Courts:

I have great pleasure in announcing that courts 1&2 are open and ready to use.  It has been great seeing some of you using the courts this week and I hope you all agree with me that they look fantastic!  Thanks to you all for being patience while the work took place.  I hope you all enjoy playing on them.

Many thanks, Club Captain Phil Layfield.
